Determination of Inorganic and Methylxped Arsenic Species in Marine Organisms and Sediments
نویسنده
چکیده
The determination of inorganic arsenic, monomethylarsenic and dimethylarsenic in marine organisms and estuarine sediments is described. The arsenic species are isolated by solvent extraction, separated by ion-exchange chromatography and selectively determined by arsine generation_ Recoveries of spikes of 5 and 10 pg of arsenic taken through the whole procedure were 92-961. Typical results obtained in a study of the forms of arsenic in several species of macroalgae, tissues of Mt?rceMria mercenaria and estuarine sediments are given.

Arsenic Circulation in Marine Ecosystems
Microbial conversion behavior was investigated with several standard arsenicals. As typical origin of marine micro-organisms, sediments, macro-algae, mollusk intestine and suspended substances were used. The degradation of arsenobetaine was observed with every origin, suggesting the ubiquitous occurrence of arsenobetaine-decomposing microorganisms in marine environment. Especially, the microorg...

Heavy metals and some organic substances which are drained into the aquatic environments and cannot be decomposed or eliminated will sink into sediments or find their way into different levels of food chain. Bioaccumulation is the process of continuous deposition and aggregation of these substances into the body tissue of living organisms. Mollusks are remarkably appropriate to be used as bio-i...

متن کاملBioaccumulation, biotransformation and trophic transfer of arsenic in the aquatic food chain.
The occurrence, distribution, speciation, and biotransformation of arsenic in aquatic environment (marine and freshwater) have been studied extensively by several research groups during last couple of decades. However, most of those studies have been conducted in marine waters, and the results are available in a number of reviews. Speciation, bioaccumulation, and biotransformation of arsenic in...
متن کاملArsenic in marine sediments from French Mediterranean ports: geochemical partitioning, bioavailability and ecotoxicology.
This work investigates arsenic mobility, bioavailability and toxicity in marine port sediments using chemical sequential extraction and laboratory toxicity tests. Sediment samples were collected from two different Mediterranean ports, one highly polluted with arsenic and other inorganic and organic pollutants (Estaque port (EST)), and the other one, less polluted, with a low arsenic content (Sa...
